Most of us don?t realise that our dogs and cats become senior citizens when they are seven years old or so. In our eyes, they may always be puppies or kittens. But like humans, animals do age and suffer age-related ailments.

There are many pet diseases associated with old age that can be prevented, delayed or successfully treated if you recognise the early warning signs.
The most common problems vets see in older pets are obesity, arthritis, tooth and gum disease, tumours, impaired senses, kidney disease, heart disease, liver disease and behavioural changes. Most diseases in dogs and cats can go unnoticed in their early stages, so regular blood and urine testing is vital in helping to your pet stay healthy.

2. Increased aggressive behavior
3. Difficulty jumping, climbing stairs, getting up in the morning
4. Excessive drinking
5. Frequent urination
6. Loss of appetite
7. Change in sleeping habits
8. Confused or disoriented behavior
9. Changes in hair coat, skin or new lumps and bumps
10. Frequent itching and scratching
11. Bad breath or swollen gums
12. Losing house training habits
